We learned to navigate health insurance coverage through personal experience

Now, we help other patients do the same.

Alex Lacey

Alex Lacey has four years of product management experience at Meta and Microsoft, previous startup founding experience, and an MBA from Stanford. He’s a member of the Association for Healthcare Denial and Appeal Management, and he’s attended healthcare conferences nationwide to teach about insurance coverage, denials, and appeals.

Malcolm Asher

Malcolm Asher is a graduate of Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology. He has conducted research at Stanford to improve patient outcomes and led a nonprofit organization focused on COVID-19 response, collaborating with the Ethiopian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.

our story

The Paxos Health team came together at Stanford from personal healthcare experiences and one very odd coincidence.

In 2021, Alex was denied by his health insurance company for a $40,000 medical procedure, and an anonymous Reddit user who also had previously overturned his own insurance denial helped Alex win his appeal. Later, at Stanford, Alex met Haley, and they decided to start a venture to help patients navigate health insurance appeals, driven by Alex’s personal experience.

Soon, Alex and Haley discovered another Stanford student was working on a similar project. It turns out, that Stanford student was the same anonymous Reddit user that had helped Alex in 2021: Malcolm. They decided to join forces and have been working together on Paxos Health ever since.

After working directly with patients and successfully overturning denials, the team began receiving outreach from medical technology companies seeking help with patient access to their innovative treatments. Haley, our CEO, brings deep experience to this area, having spent seven years at Medtronic. Recognizing a broader need, Paxos expanded its mission - building tools to help more patients access cutting-edge treatments and receive the best care possible.

The team won the Stanford Impact Founder Fellowship (given to 4 out of ~600 Stanford business school students per year), and Haley gave a talk at Stanford about their work helping patients.

Our approach is steady and cautious, and we take the time to get it right. We customize the software to each client, and we ensure that the AI outputs are accurate, hallucination-free, and always reviewed by a human.

Rather than replacing your patient access team, we aim to make them more effective.
